ZUNFT ZUR WAAG

We are proud of the history of our house, which has shaped the Zunft zur Waag over so many years - and hand over the word to the guild master:

"Since its purchase by the linen weavers in 1385, the Zunfthaus zur Waag has been a drinking establishment. A place where people came and went, met, ate and drank together and discussed political, economic and social issues. It was the meeting place of the linen weavers and from 1440 also of the wool weavers of this town. Even today, people (and not only guild members of the Waag guild) come and go here every day and do the same as they did back then: eat, drink, chat and discuss together. It is, as it was then, an inspiring house. One that promises quality and has hosted many people and events that were significant for the city and far beyond its borders. In 1916, for example, the first Dada soirée was held at the Waag, statesmen (and stateswomen) came and went, and intellectuals, artists and societies of all kinds met.

Even today, the Waag is characterized by its above-average hospitality. The house provides the framework, for the spirit is responsible - also traditionally - the guild host. Fabian Reinhardt is host with a high awareness of tradition and with experience, what visitors are looking for in our beautiful house.

So welcome to a house that combines tradition and the present, gastronomic delights and ambience. At times, you will feel as if you are back in the days when wool and linen weavers came and went. "
