Frequently asked questions about getting married in Zurich

Can you have a civil wedding at the Zunfthaus zur Waag?

Yes. The Zunfthaus zur Waag has been an official wedding venue of the City of Zurich since 2008. Civil ceremonies take place in our historic rooms every Friday and on some Saturdays.

How do I book a date for the ceremony?

You book the date for your civil ceremony directly with the Civil Registry Office of the City of Zurich. Once your date is confirmed, we will be happy to discuss all further details with you.

Can I invite my guests to an aperitif at the Zunfthaus zur Waag straight after the ceremony?

Yes, with pleasure. We welcome you and your guests in our rooms, on the terrace or in the cloister of the Fraumünster church. Please note that food and drinks brought from outside may not be consumed anywhere in the house or on the terrace.

Can I hold my wedding dinner at the Waag?

Yes. Depending on the number of guests, you can celebrate in the Waagstübli (up to 15 people), the Zunftstube (up to 60) or the Zunftsaal (up to 120). Choose our wedding menu or put together your own menu – we will be happy to advise you.

Can I hold a wedding aperitif or celebration at the Zunfthaus without a civil ceremony there?

Yes. Our charming rooms are ideal for wedding aperitifs and celebrations and are of course also available without a civil ceremony in the house.

Can I bring or organise my own decoration?

Yes, you are welcome to bring your own flowers. We provide our candlesticks free of charge; please coordinate any further decoration with us. Confetti and rice are not permitted inside or outside, but real rose petals in front of the entrance are.

How can I organise decoration, a wedding cake, a photographer and more?

Our event team will be happy to help: we organise flower and table decoration to your wishes, put you in touch with photographers, advise you on ordering a wedding cake and help with entertainment, music and further details.
